Ivana
St. John has travelled a colourful road, experiencing the diversity
of many countries and cultures. When she discovered Perth, Western
Australia she made her home here, and drawing on the richness of
her life experiences, she turned to the medium of visual art.
Ivana studied art in many of its diversified forms and for some
time channelled all her energies into watercolours which complimented
her fascination with West Australian flora. She studied an unusual
technique developed by a West Australian artist and used this knowledge
to create her own style so characteristic of all her work. Her first
solo exhibition, ’Visually Intoxicating’, was staged
at The Old Bakery on 8th Gallery in Maylands in 2000 and from there
she has gone from strength to strength.
Always searching for new and challenging ways to express her passion
with the life around her, Ivana studied the ‘chaos’
technique, which she found exhilarating. This innovative and exciting
new medium suits Ivana’s vibrant mind and she draws energy
from the remarkable shapes and forms that emerge from what we would
see as a muddle of random markings on a canvas. Her ‘Art of
Chaos’ exhibition in the Moores Building Contemporary Art
Gallery in Fremantle in 2002 was a culmination of all that she poured
into this new freedom of expression.
Ivana’s next solo exhibition ‘Dance of Imagination’
in 2004 presented both styles of her work from intricate, detailed
watercolours to the boldest brush strokes of her new works.
Her 2006 solo exhibition ‘Beyond Chaos’ showed a new
approach with the emergence of images decanted from her imagination
using colours, textures and shapes to connect a story of awakening
memories and feelings from a tapestry of her life experiences.
Inexhaustible imagination keeps Ivana’s artwork alive and
she now invites you to view her website and browse the galleries
of her favourite works.
